About The Position

Saab, Inc. has a career opportunity for a dynamic, results-oriented Materials Supervisor to join the Supply Chain team in Cranston, RI. As a Materials Supervisor, you will be a member of the Supply Chain Management team and will have a direct impact on performance in the receiving, stockroom, and shipping departments, with a team of material handlers as direct reports. The individual in this role will report to our Bristol facility daily, with travel to our Cranston facility as needed on a periodic basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Associate degree with 7+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with stockroom management, including cycle counting.
  • Experience with safety management in a material handling or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work within standardized inventory procedures while also supporting process improvements.
  • Experience managing a department in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in a team environment, multitask, and support concurrent priorities for internal and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift (pending internal training and certification).
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance, if required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Supply chain experience in the defense industry with exposure to the defense acquisition process.

  • Experience with USG, DoD, or FAA contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead activities related to the receiving, storing, shipping of materials or finished goods, and material movement.
  • Advocate for a safety-first work environment by prioritizing safety in work processes, deploying ergonomic and safe handling practices, conducting routine safety talks, equipment training and audits, and partnering with the internal safety representative.
  • Incorporate 5S and 6S principles and controls throughout the departments.
  • Support packaging and shipping activities that are compliant with contractual requirements and company policy.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop pack and ship schedules that meet program contract dates and on-time delivery (OTD) metrics.
  • Serve as process owner for incoming receiving to ensure purchase orders are accurately maintained and materials received are correct (e.g., part numbers, quantities, and damage-free condition).
  • Utilize inventory control measures such as cycle counting to ensure inventory accuracy between the physical stockroom/warehouse and the MRP system.
  • Ensure stockroom materials are picked, prepared, and delivered to manufacturing to meet production schedules with a high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Establish, modify, and communicate standardized work, policies, and procedures, and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Own department performance metrics, including data collection, analysis of actual performance versus targets, and development or refinement of KPIs.
  • Report on metrics related to activities such as cycle counting and on-time delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Develop and execute action plans based on metrics analysis to drive performance improvement and process effectiveness.
  • Identify staffing needs and partner with HR to recruit, interview, and hire candidates.
  • Develop training plans and provide ongoing employee feedback to support development of receiving, stockroom, and shipping material handlers.
  • Support internal and external process audits in the incoming, stockroom, and shipping departments.
  • Collaborate with incoming inspection and program teams to ensure timely processing of materials to support business revenue goals.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% annually in support of program and business development effort.
