About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of the maintenance department. This position ensures that equipment, machinery, facilities, and support systems are maintained safely, efficiently, and reliably. The Maintenance Supervisor directs maintenance employees, schedules preventive and corrective maintenance, supports production requirements, and promotes continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Five or more years of industrial, manufacturing, or facility-maintenance experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, manuals, and blueprints.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS software.
  • Strong troubleshooting, planning, organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead employees and coordinate work across multiple departments.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, and maintenance-management systems.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb, and work around industrial equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move items within company-established limits, with assistance when required.
  • Ability to work in areas that may involve noise, heat, dust, heights, or moving machinery.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Availability to work scheduled shifts, overtime, weekends, or respond to emergency maintenance needs when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, skilled-trade certification, or equivalent training.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers, automation, robotics, or motor-control systems.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis, reliability practices, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with applicable OSHA, environmental, and workplace-safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and provide daily direction to maintenance technicians, electricians, mechanics, and contractors.
  • Assign work orders and establish priorities based on safety, production needs, equipment condition, and available resources.
  • Ensure equipment breakdowns are addressed quickly and safely to minimize production downtime.
  • Develop, schedule, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Inspect completed work to verify quality, safety, and compliance with established standards.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility-related problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, equipment history, labor hours, and parts usage.
  • Use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders, schedules, equipment records, and maintenance performance.
  • Monitor spare-parts inventory and coordinate the ordering of tools, materials, and replacement components.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, quality, and safety personnel to resolve equipment and process problems.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules to reduce operational interruptions.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, modifications, and improvement projects.
  • Manage outside contractors and verify that their work meets company safety and quality requirements.
  • Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and help manage the department’s budget.
  • Promote equipment reliability, workplace organization, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Participate in emergency and after-hours maintenance support when required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable for safety, attendance, quality, productivity, and work completion.
  • Conduct shift meetings and communicate maintenance priorities, equipment conditions, and safety concerns.
  • Train and develop employees to improve their technical knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.
  • Encourage teamwork, professional conduct, and effective communication.
  • Support fair and consistent enforcement of company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure all work is performed according to company safety procedures.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, confined-space, fall-protection, and other applicable requirements.
  • Ensure employees use the required personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections and correct unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and equipment-related safety concerns.
  • Ensure contractors follow all site safety rules before beginning work.
