About The Position

The Line Handling Supervisor position performs the supervisory and administrative tasks involved with the oversight of the Line Handling Associates team, which performs all commercial mooring operations at the Canaveral Port Authority. An employee assigned to this classification performs under the general supervision of the Line Handling Manager and provides assistance to the Duty Harbormaster(s), as needed. This position includes a monthly $85.00 cell phone stipend.

Requirements

  • High School diploma supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years progressively responsible and knowledgeable experience preferably in marine transportation and/or seaport operations or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have minimum three (3) years’ experience line handling.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and port policies
  • Must have supervisory or lead role experience
  • Proven ability to effectively schedule staff, for a 24-hour, 7 day, 365 days a year calendar
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must have verifiable superior attendance
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain TWIC credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the line handling staff; promoting safety, efficiency, and professionalism amongst the team.
  • Assures compliance amongst Line Handlers with CPA and departmental policies
  • Maintains long range shift schedules for each line handling associate based on the needs of the Canaveral Port Authority’s cruise and cargo vessels.
  • Responsible for basic office functions using computers with an emphasis on Microsoft Office 365
  • Coordinates with Duty Harbormaster(s) to schedule daily and weekly work assignments
  • Assists with the training program for the line handling department
  • Assists with weekly and end of month water meter reading logs for cruise and cargo docks for billing purposes
  • Assists vessels with water hook up to water stations on dock
  • Assigns daily work to be done and prioritize projects to be done amongst line handling associates
  • Calls in line handling associates for mooring operations, keeping track of rotating call in list
  • Leads monthly meetings to go over any departmental changes, safety, and encourage group ideology of the department
  • Inspects docks for cleanliness and damage and assign work to line handlers or work requests to maintenance department
  • Collaborates with other departments for vehicle maintenance, gangway cleaning, parking garage cleaning
  • Assists manager with department employee evaluations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
