About The Position

The Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Supervisor provides day-to-day operational and personnel oversight for the phlebotomy and specimen staff serving the main hospital (inpatient units) as well as affiliated off-site Patient Service Centers (PSCs). This role ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, workflow efficiency, and consistent laboratory standards across all service locations and shifts. The supervisor serves as a key liaison between laboratory leadership, clinical departments, and external service sites, supporting optimal specimen integrity, turnaround times, and patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years phlebotomy and specimen processing experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Nationally recognized Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, NCPT or equivalent)
  • Must have no disciplinary infractions in the last 12 months or must have a performance evaluation
  • Must be compliant with all educational and organizational policies and procedures
  • Must have flexibility to work in all areas of the lab as needed
  • Must be able to work independently at the off-site Patient Service Centers
  • Must be able to provide Phlebotomy Services to Nursing Home residents in the community with minimal oversight
  • Preceptor Trained, ability to train new hires according to Lab Leadership directives
  • Strong positive communication skills and professional demeanor with patients, staff, and leadership
  • Familiarity with NYDOH, TJC, OSHA regulatory standards and infection control
  • Knowledge of Charge Reconciliation, EBEW and CEW corrections
  • Knowledge of Pathology Send Outs, Labcorp and Reference Billing
  • Able to deal with all types of patients/employees in a pleasant, professional manner.
  • Must be independent, self-motivated, reliable, and responsible.
  • Able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously.
  • Able to train and mentor others, problem-solve, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must complete all Health Stream Education Assignments in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a leadership or laboratory assistant role preferred
  • Associates and bachelor’s degree preferred
