The Microbiology Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Microbiology section of the clinical laboratory. This role facilitates the implementation of hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting in training new employees, organizing the workload of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and laboratory phlebotomists, and monitoring daily maintenance and quality control. The supervisor implements good public relations by representing the laboratory to patients, physicians, and hospital staff. They are responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the department, including assisting in hiring, training, competency assessment, and performance reviews. This role involves making clinical/technical decisions, maintaining the quality and security of instrumentation, quality control documentation, and meeting hospital goals for accurate and timely patient care. The supervisor is also responsible for maintaining procedure manuals and documentation for regulatory organizations, overseeing staff schedules and PTO requests, and ensuring staff compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
