About The Position

The Supervisor, Lab Assistants & Phlebotomy provides daily leadership and coordination for laboratory assistant and phlebotomy services across the Trinity Health Hospital Campus, Medical Office Building outpatient clinic, and additional off-site collection locations. This role ensures accurate and efficient specimen collection, labeling, processing, transport, and archiving to support high-quality laboratory testing. The supervisor manages staffing, workflow, training, and service coverage for a large, multi-site team while promoting consistency, safety, and excellent customer service. Through clear communication, supportive leadership, and operational oversight, this position enhances the patient experience and supports timely diagnostic services across all collection sites.

Requirements

  • 3 years of lab related experience performing phlebotomy/clerical functions in a medical setting required
  • National Phlebotomy or Laboratory Assistant Certification ASCP or equivalent preferred
  • BA/AS in biological or chemical science preferred
  • High school diploma required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well
  • Solid computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of lab assistants and phlebotomy teams across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring accurate specimen collection, labeling, processing, and delivery.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments, schedules, and daily workflow to maintain adequate coverage and efficient service at all supported locations.
  • Provide hands-on technical support, training, and competency oversight for phlebotomy procedures, specimen handling, and documentation practices.
  • Monitor quality indicators, supply levels, equipment needs, and adherence to safety and infection-prevention standards to support reliable operations.
  • Collaborate with nursing units, outpatient clinics, laboratory leadership, and other departments to resolve service concerns and support an effective patient-centered workflow.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, support readiness for regulatory surveys, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
