About The Position

The Supervisor, HTP Aerosol and Flavor Analytics is a role splitting time between hands-on technical/bench work in aerosol extraction and flavor analytics testing and first-line people leadership for the HTP Aerosol and Flavor Analytics team, within the insourced laboratory team. The Supervisor is expected to remain a credible, practicing technical contributor while also owning scheduling, training coordination, and day-to-day supervision of Scientist and/or Technician staff, and serving as the escalation point to the Analytical Manager. This role operates within an ISO 17025 accredited analytical production laboratory at a client site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • OR Master’s degree in a related discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • OR PhD in a related discipline with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and provide technical leadership (player).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop laboratory staff (coach).
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of balancing hands-on technical work with people-leadership duties in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • People leadership including coaching, training coordination, and performance management input.
  • Scheduling and workload distribution skills.
  • Effective communication and escalation management with department staff and the Analytical Manager.
  • Knowledge of aerosolization, aerosol collection, and flavor analytics methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 17025 quality systems and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a team lead, group leader, or supervisor in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience within ISO 17025, GLP, or GMP-regulated environments.
  • Experience coordinating scheduling, training, and workload distribution for a laboratory team.
  • Familiarity with performance management processes and laboratory staffing models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on technical/bench work in the department's core methodologies at a level consistent with Scientist III – the “player” half of this role – for a significant portion of time.
  • Provide first-line supervision for Scientist and Technician staff within the department, including day-to-day work assignment and coordination – the “coach” half of this role.
  • Coach, train, and develop team members; support onboarding, qualification, and competency assessments for new and existing staff.
  • Coordinate scheduling and workload distribution to ensure client turnaround requirements and business needs are met.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point between department staff and the Analytical Manager on technical and operational matters.
  • Participate in performance management activities, including input on reviews, coaching conversations, and staffing needs.
  • Provide technical oversight, troubleshooting support, and review of team members' work.
  • Ensure department compliance with ISO 17025 and applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain training and compliance in health, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
