About The Position

LCRA TSC's Structural and Civil Engineering group has an opportunity for an expert, dedicated, professional that has leadership experience in structural or civil engineering. We want you to bring your leadership experience to support LCRA in a fast-paced inspiring work culture. You will lead a team of engineers and designers that are responsible for outsourced projects from the beginning of the design phase to construction completion. You will be directly involved with electrical substation projects across Texas that improve the quality of life of the communities we serve. We are a group that thrives on finding innovative ways to accomplish our work, improve processes, and interact collaboratively with various colleagues across the organization. Our primary department function is to support the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical substations owned by both LCRA and LCRA TSC. In this effort, we scope and design the structural and civil components associated with all new substations and existing substation expansions, including support of the land acquisition needs of access roads and property.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus six or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job, including providing technical leadership in engineering/design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas for all departments except Telecommunications Engineering
  • Driver's license

  • Advanced knowledge in project design and analysis, in two or more of the following: Structural steel; Foundations (shallow and deep); Land development; Drainage/detention ponds.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, project management methods and concepts, budgeting and cost management, as well as research, specification, and purchasing of materials, structures and systems.
  • Skill in providing leadership, direction and supervision of staff, as well as skills in listening, verbal and written communication.
  • Advanced skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications for field personnel, engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to be highly organized, consistent, reliable, and collaborative.
  • Ability to articulate complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to analyze reports for quality assurance, coordinate project reviews and implementation plans, work in a team environment, and balance competing and high priority work demands.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to staff. Hires, trains, promotes, assigns work, evaluates and manages performance and handles all aspects of staff supervision. Maintains awareness of department issues and responds to employee needs and concerns. Communicate with employees to ensure accurate and timely distribution of information.
  • Provides leadership and direction by developing goals, objectives, priorities, plans, and procedures. Manages staff workload. Makes recommendations and proposals to management as required.
  • Organize, monitor and report on substation structural and civil engineering project designs and production delivery that are outsourced to engineering partners. This role requires detail-oriented and organized monitoring in managing numerous outsourced projects simultaneously.
  • In accordance with approved Supply Management processes and procedures, serves as structural and civil owner’s representative for outside engineering contracts. Participates in the Engineering Outsourcing Working Group.
  • Ensure timely communication occurs to your team, across to your peers and to upper management. This includes providing feedback and coordination with your direct reports, the consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepares and revises operating procedures and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Recommends new and improved practices and procedures related to structural, civil or outsourcing areas. Develops and conducts presentations to management and others. Follows appropriate business procedures.
  • Provides technical expertise in structural and/or civil engineering disciplines.
