About The Position

The Supervisor, Cryobank and Client Operations is responsible for facilitating laboratory sample intake and distribution, maintaining accurate sample inventory records, and providing professional client support for the Reproductive Sciences Unit. This role also oversees the implementation and maintenance of quality control and quality assessment standards for the laboratories and Canada’s Wildlife Cryobank. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

Requirements

• Minimum BSc (MSc preferred) in biological or biomedical sciences with a specialization in reproductive technologies or cryobanking with at least 3 years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Quality Control/Quality Assurance assessment, documentation and compliance an asset.
• Must have proven experience managing sample inventories including diligent record keeping and reporting.
• Must have proven knowledge and experience in cryobiology and working with biological samples.
• Demonstrated experience with client management and customer service an asset.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
• Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
• Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record.
• Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.
• Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
• Must be able to interact with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of cell culture and gamete cryobiology an asset.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and assist in achieving and maintaining accreditation standards for biological samples including equipment or database maintenance, documentation and reporting.
• Maintain sample inventory records and supervise the intake and release of biological samples.
• Ensure conformity of protocols and lab practices with accreditation standards.
• Liaise with internal and external collaborators to receive samples, disseminate results and triage research requests.
• Invoice clients for service work and maintain revenue records.
• Ensure compliance with quality control and quality assessment during routine laboratory practices and procedures including ensuring equipment maintenance and reconciling expenditures.
• Oversight of lab derived biological and chemical hazards and Health & Safety SOPs.
• Create and update procedural SOPs as needed.
• Coordinate and support Toronto Zoo and Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy science communication initiatives, activities and events.
• Develop, coordinate and deliver educational and training opportunities for internal and external researchers.
• Supervision of staff including scheduling, training, payroll and performance evaluations.
• Support the Manager, Science Development, Manager of Reproductive Biotechnology and Reproductive Science team as needed.
• Follows all standard operating procedures.
