About The Position

The Supervisor, Controls Engineering leads a team of PLC controls engineers that design and implement electrical controls systems for automated material handling equipment. This is supervision of project/application-based work that includes development of specifications, review of electrical controls drawings, PLC/PAC logic and HMI interface/operator screens. Team members will develop the application in the office. Team members will install and test completed work at the client’s facility. You must be self-motivated, dedicated and possess a strong sense of initiative. You must have the ability to easily adapt to changing situations and have a strong technical background in electrical and controls systems. Candidates must have a strong task-based skillset with a focus on organization, time-management, and prioritization. Candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills plus the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of people at all levels of expertise. As a Supervisor, Controls Engineering, you will be involved in leading team members assigned to projects from the concept phase through design, programming, testing and onsite support. You will serve as the primary point of contact between the Engineering Manager and the electrical design project team. You may have direct interaction between the client and our company. You will work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering and Project Management.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC/PAC Controllers or similar automation controllers
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems including PLC and HMI systems a plus
  • Knowledge of communication networks
  • Ability to read and understand system layouts, schematics and other controls system drawings
  • Bachelors of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), Computer Science (BSCS), Computer Engineering (BSCE), Computer Engineering Technology (BSCET)
  • Experience of 5+ Years within material handling industry desired or related engineering experience
  • Experience in the material handing/equipment controls industry preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a team of engineers, participating in hiring of engineers, scheduling, mentoring, reviewing, planning, following standards/procedures, developing standards, performance reviews & appraisals
  • Lead by example and participate in PLC code development to ensure standards are followed
  • Meeting with both client and internal project teams to define applications
  • Review proposals, statements of work and customer specifications for automated material handling projects
  • Develops resource planning and forecasting to support in-house and field PLC code development project phases.
  • Coordinates departmental work to meet project schedules
  • Assign PLC controls resources to projects
  • Generating project specific documentation using standard company formats.
  • Using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for design reviews prior to application code development.
  • Participating in design review meetings with electrical engineering
  • Supervise team progress and productivity and report status to engineering management
  • Identify customizations to standard PLC software components within requirements of each specific project.
  • Perform PLC software code reviews with assigned project resources
  • Participates in design reviews with project teams
  • Perform regular progress checks and reviews of PLC controls team
  • Creates departmental standards documentation
  • Interact with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering and on-site installation teams
  • Work closely with PLC controls engineers & software engineers to integrate controls solutions
  • Performs on-site technical system audits with project team members
  • Performs on-site system commissioning progress checks to validate installation and commissioning status
  • Participates in scheduling of customer service and customer experience turnover meetings at the completion of a project.
  • Provides leadership to junior staff members
  • Report to engineering manager & project managers.
