About The Position

Perform the maintenance, repair, and overall functionality of the facility and its systems including but not limited to minor electrical, electronics, carpentry, and plumbing repairs. Develop and implement schedules for summer or annual cleaning, regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to ensure compliance with District, State, and Federal regulations. Conduct initial diagnosis of malfunctioning equipment prior to requesting technical assistance. Perform cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance tasks on various building components including but not limited to HVAC equipment, roofs, gutters, floors, shut-off valves, kitchen equipment, and other systems requiring repairs or upgrades. Perform alignment, adjustment, and replacement of hardware items, including but not limited to door closures, window mechanisms and fencing. Conduct minor patching and painting of walls and ceilings on both interior and exterior surfaces to maintain facility appearance. Assist in recruiting, supervising, and managing daily operations and vacation schedules for custodial and sites worker staff, while overseeing related services such as mowing, pruning, and the maintenance of trees, shrubbery, and plants. Monitor school facility for safety issues, damage and debris which may periodically occur due to storm and weather events, overall cleanliness, and ensure that all daily tasks, service requests, and repairs are promptly completed. Monitor and manage the facility’s maintenance budget, including supplies and contractor services, and collaborate with the locations bookkeeper to purchase necessary items for the facility. Perform physical tasks, such as but not limited to loading and unloading furniture, supplies, materials, equipment, and breaking down and setting up rooms. Apply knowledge of chemicals and hazardous materials in day-to-day operations. Respond to building fire or security alarm calls. Assume responsibility for locking and unlocking buildings, offices, and classrooms. Participate in meetings (School Advisory Council or Leadership Team) and lead staff or safety meetings. Consult and monitor renovations and construction projects at the school site as needed. All other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of related experience and/or training in maintenance, supervision, and custodial services.
  • Hands-on experience in various maintenance and repair tasks, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC (air conditioning) systems, carpentry, painting, hardware repairs, visual roofing inspections, and grounds maintenance.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, basic industry tools, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; organizational, problem solving and management skills.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics and understand and apply basic trade concepts.
  • Ability to prepare and monitor annual/monthly budgets.
  • Ability to maintain a productive pace and organize daily and monthly maintenance/custodial schedules to ensure efficiency.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and repetitively lift, push, bend, or stretch.
  • Ability to work at heights off a bucket truck, ladder, or scaffold..
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, during storm events, and be on call for emergencies 24 hours a day as needed.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of related experience and/or training in maintenance, supervision, and custodial services with expertise to include but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC (air conditioning) systems, carpentry, painting, hardware repairs, visual roofing inspections, and grounds maintenance.
  • Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.
