About The Position

Hydro Ottawa is seeking a Supervisor, Artificial Intelligence, who will act as a change champion and innovative leader. This role is responsible for guiding and mentoring others to enable them to do their best work. The Supervisor, Artificial Intelligence will lead select Hydro Ottawa Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives by establishing foundational AI systems and delivering impactful solutions aligned with Hydro Ottawa’s strategic objectives. The role involves pioneering AI technologies to solve complex business problems, guiding a team dedicated to building, scaling, and maintaining AI systems. The role encompasses proactive collaboration with IT colleagues and internal and external stakeholders to foster innovation and enhance business outcomes.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Computer Science, related discipline. Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
  • Proven expertise in implementing and managing AI/ML platforms.
  • Comprehensive experience in multiple AI domains, including NLP, Robotic Process Automation, Chatbots, and Generative AI.
  • Minimum 7 years of software development experience with proficiency in one or more programming languages like Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments, with strong skills in shell scripting and system administration.
  • Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly in managing services, infrastructure, and optimizing AI solutions through Compute, Storage, Functions, and Vertex AI.
  • Significant experience with modern web development technologies and frameworks, capable of overseeing both front-end (JavaScript frameworks) and back-end development (Python, Node).
  • Experienced in Agile methodologies, using an iterative approach to deliver AI solutions efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Google Vertex AI, TensorFlow, and other Google Cloud AI services considered an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage comprehensive AI systems that encompass machine learning (ML) models, data processing, front-end interfaces, back-end integrations, and cloud systems.
  • Drive the delivery of AI/ML initiatives, prioritizing projects based on stakeholder feedback, business value, size, complexity and technical feasibility.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in AI/ML within the organization, empowering teams with the necessary knowledge, training, and support to leverage AI solutions effectively.
  • Lead and mentor a team of AI professionals, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain an AI/ML roadmap aligned with the company's overall vision and objectives including forecast of use case scope, schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders to define project requirements, data acquisition strategies, and ensure adherence to data governance especially cybersecurity and privacy standards.
  • Facilitate the delivery of updates to existing solutions and the implementation of new solutions, adhering to change management practices to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Maintain a solution-oriented mindset to troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate resolution activities.
  • Keep up with the latest AI/ML trends and technologies, integrating innovative ideas and tools into existing and new projects.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • The annual salary range for this position identified below depends on experience, education, and professional designation. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on their qualifications.
  • Pay Range Minimum: $89,420.99
  • Pay Range Maximum: $134,130.81
