About The Position

VSE Aviation is seeking an experienced candidate for its accounting supervisor role. This role reports to the accounting manager and leads a team of 2 staff accountants. The accounting supervisor will be responsible for delivering accurate, reliable, and timely monthly financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Candidate will have the opportunity to make a real impact by driving process improvement and system implementation efforts, to streamline operations and improve the close process and overall scalability of the accounting/finance function. The candidate will be a key player in financial audits, develop team, support the financial integration of new acquisitions, and provide quality financial reporting and accounting operations that support the growth of our business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Degree: Accounting/Finance)
  • CPA or Eligible
  • Public accounting experience
  • Work experience minimum 8-10 years (operational experience from month end close reporting to process improvements)
  • Good understanding of financial reporting
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong ERP and consolidation system experience (HFM/Oracle/Essbase (SmartView))
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Applicable work experience in a high-paced environment and willingness to have a high diverse set of tasks and responsibilities’
  • Proven experience building, developing, mentoring and inspiring a high-performance professional accounting team

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly/quarterly/yearly close process, including preparation and/or review of journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and various GL analysis
  • Proactively identify process improvements
  • Responsible for managing the review and the preparation of financial statement reporting deliverables, adhering to established timelines and protocols
  • Assist in research, company adoption, and documentation of emerging accounting standards
  • Ensure proper Fixed Asset management
  • Assist manager with the communication and data flow to auditors for the annual financial and internal control audits
  • Support an internal control structure that ensures the integrity of information maintained in all financial areas
  • Support the implementation of the Consolidation & Planning Tool (Oracle go live scheduled for Q421/Q222)
  • Aid in the implementation of ad-hoc software modules
  • Assist manager with the financial integration of new acquisitions
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relations
  • Partner with manager to spearhead strategy and goal setting initiatives within the accounting department
  • Partners with FP&A as they work with the business to develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business
  • Assist manager in providing accounting subject matter expertise to other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendation to operational issues
  • Report on the financial results of operational activities to finance senior leadership
