Supervisor 1, Associate Engineer
About The Position
The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for a Supervisor 1, Associate Engineer located within the District II Road Operations Center (ROC) in Sparks, NV. The incumbent is responsible for managing the ROC and supporting district operation programs. This includes coordinating with outside agencies, quality control functions, identifying needed projects, and implementing district contracts and service controls. The role also involves coordinating freeway management and district response to incidents through the computer-aided dispatch program, assisting in the design and operation of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) field elements, establishing and maintaining internal operating guidelines and procedures, and providing supervision and technical direction for ROC staff. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of subprofessional engineering experience; OR four years of experience at the Engineering Technician II level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of current engineering principles and practices
- Knowledge of practical application of geometry, trigonometry and algebra
- Knowledge of engineering terminology, concepts and calculations
- General knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and applicable health and safety regulations
- Ability to make logical engineering judgments
- Ability to read and comprehend technical and scientific documents, maps, specifications and plans
- Ability to make computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles
- Ability to analyze and interpret information, technical data, problems, situations, practices and procedures
- Ability to define specific engineering problems and objectives
- Ability to identify relevant concerns or factors, patterns, tendencies and relationships, and recognize alternatives and their implications
- Ability to use a scientific calculator
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with department staff, management, contractors, the public and other outside entities
- Ability to work within the Cartesian coordinate system
- Ability to complete workload within established deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
