NPR News Now/Newscast is looking for a proactive, inventive and reliable Senior Supervising Producer with expert journalism and management skills to help lead its national news product and support its growth on multiple platforms. Millions of listeners depend on NPR’s newscasts to set the news agenda each hour of each day. This role involves leading a team that distills NPR’s compelling reporting down to its essence for the Newscast Unit, which produces the best of NPR in five minutes. Newscasts are NPR’s most listened to news product, with 23 million weekly radio listeners and the #1 U.S. podcast according to Podtrac. The ideal candidate is committed to daily and breaking news, knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics, and eager to deliver a mix of the freshest, most audience-relevant stories. They are innovative, think out of the box, and prioritize audience needs. They believe in the mission of public media and excel at interacting with and leading teams. Newscast is NPR’s 24/7 news operation. This is a Wednesday to Sunday job, with leadership responsibilities on the weekend. Successful candidates may be asked to temporarily change their work schedule to cover shifts and special assignments as needed. This is an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook, meaning all editorial staff are bound by this guidance. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPR's content, including events.
