About The Position

The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside is seeking an experienced and collaborative legal professional to serve as a Supervising Self-Help Attorney. In this leadership role, you will oversee court-based self-help legal services programs that support self-represented litigants while supervising a team of attorneys and paralegals dedicated to improving access to justice throughout Riverside County. This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven attorney who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values public service, and is passionate about mentoring staff, improving legal service delivery, and creating meaningful community impact. The Court offers a hybrid-remote work environment for this position. The selected candidate will have a designated home court location in Indio, Palm Springs, or Banning, with a combination of remote and on-site work based on departmental needs and operational requirements. Under the direction of the Managing Attorney, the Supervising Self Help Attorney oversees the daily operations of the Court’s Self-Help Legal Services programs and supervises Self Help Attorneys and Paralegals. This position combines leadership, program administration, legal research, and direct legal service support for self-represented litigants.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
  • Five (5) years of legal experience, including at least two (2) years providing legal services within a California legal aid, public interest, and/or self-help services organization

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop Self Help legal staff
  • Oversee daily operations and service delivery of self-help programs
  • Analyze workflows, statistics, and program outcomes to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Coordinate program activities with court departments and external justice partners
  • Provide guidance to judicial officers and court staff regarding general legal issues
  • Research and analyze legislation and recommend procedural or policy improvements
  • Develop educational materials, workshops, presentations, and online self-help content
  • Assist litigants with forms, legal procedures, and referrals to community resources
  • Respond to customer concerns and ensure quality service delivery
  • Support innovation through online tools, instructional resources, and multimedia content
