About The Position

Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking an energetic, skilled, and committed leader to serve as a regional Supervising Attorney. Operating from our Statewide Headquarters in Charleston, you will spearhead legal advocacy and office leadership for a regional service area spanning Logan, Mingo, Boone, and Lincoln Counties. This is more than a management role; it is an opportunity to be a practitioner-leader, balancing direct legal advocacy with the strategic oversight of a mission-driven team. As a key member of the LAWV program management team, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality, accessible legal services for low-income West Virginians.

Requirements

  • Member in good standing of the West Virginia State Bar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel, ideally with 2+ years of managerial experience.
  • Well-developed administrative skills, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex, multifaceted projects with tact and flexibility.
  • Broad knowledge of the social and legal issues impacting our clients and a deep commitment to finding remedies to address them.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director in fulfilling administrative and financial responsibilities to the Board of Directors and help set office priorities by assessing the unique needs of clients in your region.
  • Build and coach a legal team, including the hiring, orientation, training, and professional development of field staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of our recently renovated, modern office space in downtown Logan, ensuring uniform, high-quality advocacy across all forums, including courts and administrative agencies.
  • Collaborate with human and social service organizations to strengthen local service delivery and ensure legal aid reaches those who need it most.
  • Remain an active practitioner, providing direct legal services and maintaining a presence in the courtroom alongside your team.

Benefits

  • Salary: $67,000 - $79,000, based upon experience.
