About The Position

The APP Supervisor for Critical Care is a key leadership role responsible for operational oversight, team performance, and the ongoing development of advanced practice providers within the Critical Care service line. The APP Supervisor ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through strong operational management, implementation of evidence-based practice, and development of a highly engaged provider team. The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) demonstrates the knowledge and clinical expertise necessary to manage the care of critically ill adult patients.

Requirements

Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987.
Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.
BLS/ACLS Certified.
Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).
Minimum of 2 years experience working in Critical Care.
Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
Provider shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.

Responsibilities

Provide operational oversight of APPs within the Critical Care service line.
Manage APP staffing, scheduling, productivity, recruitment, onboarding, and orientation.
Monitor quality indicators, identify trends, and implement improvement strategies to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
Support provider development, complete and discuss performance evaluations, and address performance, professionalism, and safety concerns.
Foster a positive work environment through engagement, recognition, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Collaborate closely with physician and nursing leadership to ensure team alignment, service excellence, and successful implementation of clinical and quality initiatives.
Provide direct patient care while serving as a clinical role model, with responsibilities divided into approximately 70% administrative and 30% clinical.
