The Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) Partnership is a partnership program between the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Ontario Health and CNO approved organizations such as Southlake Regional Health Centre. The program offers eligible International Educated Nurses (IEN) applicants the option to complete a supervised practice experience in Ontario to demonstrate current nursing knowledge, skill and judgement and language proficiency skills in order to become registered with the CNO. By participating in the program, applicants will have an opportunity to meet the following requirements to enter practice as a nurse: Evidence of Practice, or Evidence of Practice and Language Proficiency. The Supervised Practice Intern in a supervised practice experience role, models clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), as well as the policies and procedures of Southlake Health. The Supervised Practice Intern works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The IEN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN and RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers.
