About The Position

The Superintendent is responsible for the successful field execution of construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Benchmark's quality standards. This role provides hands-on leadership and direction to field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders while planning and coordinating day-to-day site activities. The Superintendent works closely with project management to proactively identify field challenges, manage resources, monitor productivity, maintain project documentation, and ensure construction activities align with project scope, specifications, and schedule. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader with extensive construction knowledge, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated construction experience overseeing field operations and managing multiple trades, subcontractors, and field personnel.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, construction methods, and safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience managing subcontractors and coordinating work to meet project schedules and budget expectations.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively direct, motivate, and develop field teams.
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify field challenges early, make sound decisions, and coordinate timely resolutions with project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, for reporting, documentation, timesheets, and daily communication.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and perform effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced construction environment and adjust to changing project priorities and field conditions.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and other applicable construction safety certifications.
  • Strong responsiveness and availability to support project needs, including communication outside of normal business hours when necessary.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving history and ability to travel to multiple project sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of construction management and field technology platforms such as Procore, PlanGrid/Fieldwire, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with building codes, permitting requirements, and regulations related to utility construction.
  • Experience supporting utility construction and/or mission critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture by promoting and enforcing Benchmark, client, OSHA, and applicable environmental safety requirements across the jobsite.
  • Conduct regular site walkthroughs and safety inspections, partnering with the Safety Department to identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead and coordinate daily field operations, including subcontractors, trades, field personnel, equipment, materials, and other project resources.
  • Monitor construction progress and productivity to ensure work remains aligned with project milestones, schedules, and performance expectations.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to forecast short- and long-term construction activities, manpower needs, equipment requirements, and material deliveries.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and construction documents to ensure field teams understand the scope of work and execute it accurately.
  • Identify potential scope changes, out-of-scope work, schedule impacts, and cost concerns early and communicate them promptly to project management.
  • Take ownership of field cost control by monitoring labor productivity, resource utilization, timesheets, material quantities, storage, and waste.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, manpower tracking, production information, site photographs, and other required project records.
  • Communicate effectively with project management, other superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, trades, and client representatives to maintain alignment throughout project execution.
  • Lead grade control and layout verification efforts, coordinating with surveyors, engineers, and field teams to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proactively identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, quality concerns, and other jobsite challenges.
  • Perform routine inspections of work in place to verify compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulations while minimizing rework.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch list development, inspections, client walkthroughs, documentation, and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, training, and performance feedback to assistant superintendents, foremen, field engineers, and crew members.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, and onboarding efforts to build and maintain a skilled, dependable, and high-performing field workforce.
  • Uphold Benchmark's standards of excellence, accountability, teamwork, and integrity through daily leadership.
