About The Position

Choice Schools Associates is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Superintendent to lead and support a portfolio of Michigan charter schools. The Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in ensuring our schools deliver exceptional academic results, develop strong school leaders, maintain healthy school cultures, and fulfill the unique missions and promises made to their students, families, boards, and communities. This is not simply an oversight position. We are looking for a leader who enjoys developing people, solving complex problems, building relationships, and working alongside school leaders to continuously improve their schools. The Superintendent also serves as a key member of the Choice Schools leadership team, helping shape organizational strategy while ensuring our schools have the leadership, systems, resources, and support necessary to thrive.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current Michigan School Administrator Certification or enrollment in an MDE-approved School Leader Preparation Program leading to certification within six months of employment.
  • Successful experience as a teacher and school leader.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising, coaching, and developing educational leaders strongly preferred.
  • Michigan charter school leadership experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assigned school leaders.
  • Develop school leaders who confidently make decisions, solve problems, and lead their teams.
  • Help school leaders build strong and effective leadership teams.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability while providing leaders with the coaching and resources they need to succeed.
  • Foster a culture of feedback, open communication, continuous improvement, and recognition.
  • Support leaders through difficult employee, student, family, and organizational situations.
  • Ensure schools are making meaningful progress toward academic goals and the expectations established within their charter contracts.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of each school's educational model, curriculum, academic programs, and student achievement data.
  • Partner with school leaders and academic teams to identify opportunities for improvement and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure effective academic and behavioral Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) are in place.
  • Support schools in providing safe, caring, academically rigorous learning environments for all students.
  • Ensure schools maintain fidelity to their educational models while continuously improving student outcomes.
  • Develop collaborative, transparent, and productive relationships with school boards, authorizers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Help bring each Board's unique mission and vision to life.
  • Support boards in understanding academic, operational, financial, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead and support charter renewal, reauthorization, accreditation, and educational service provider evaluation processes.
  • Ensure schools operate in alignment with charter contracts, Board policies, strategic plans, and applicable requirements.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource regarding Michigan charter school governance and the Open Meetings Act.
  • Promote school cultures that are mission-driven, student-focused, welcoming, and grounded in strong values.
  • Build relationships with families, community leaders, foundations, government officials, and other key stakeholders.
  • Partner with school leaders and communications teams to strengthen enrollment, retention, marketing, and community engagement.
  • Support school leaders in effectively addressing parent concerns and resolving conflicts.
  • Celebrate and communicate the accomplishments of students, employees, and schools.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of school budgets and financial statements and effectively communicate financial information to school boards and leaders.
  • Ensure school operations and financial practices align with Board policy and organizational expectations.
  • Partner with Choice Schools' Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Special Education, Academic, and Communications teams to support assigned schools.
  • Support school safety, facilities, compliance, and operational initiatives.
  • Monitor school performance and activate additional support when schools or leaders need intervention.
  • Promote continuous improvement across academics, operations, finance, culture, and human resources.
