About The Position

The Superintendent is the backbone of field operations, responsible for the successful execution of projects through exceptional leadership, organization, and technical expertise. Reporting to the Project Manager, this role goes beyond managing the means and methods of construction it requires being a leader, manager, and educator. The Superintendent ensures projects are built safely, on time, on budget, and in compliance with construction codes and project specifications. This role emphasizes building a team of capable individuals, identifying their strengths, and assigning roles to maximize their potential. The Superintendent must be organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, ensuring effective planning and execution while fostering collaboration and accountability.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Construction Superintendent or similar role in the commercial electrical or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, electrical systems, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a team of foremen, lead persons, electricians, and helpers by identifying their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Mentor and educate team members, fostering the development of new talent by prioritizing drive and potential over experience.
  • Motivate the team while holding them accountable, creating a positive and productive work environment.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to align the team with project goals and expectations.
  • Oversee the execution of the project in compliance with construction codes, project specifications, and safety standards.
  • Plan work ahead to minimize inefficiencies and eliminate the need for daily material orders.
  • Develop a miscellaneous material buyout plan at the start of the project to manage procurement efficiently and reduce purchase orders.
  • Track and manage labor hours, production, and material usage to ensure budget compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with material releases and backorders.
  • Maintain accountability for all company tools and equipment, minimizing shrinkage through effective management and oversight.
  • Attend weekly check-in project team meetings to review overall progress, milestones, RFIs, submittals, and installation plans.
  • Attend weekly or monthly subcontractor meetings to ensure alignment on deliverables and scope.
  • Represent the field team in General Contractor (GC) meetings to provide updates on field progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Attend weekly manpower forecasting meetings to present labor forecasts and the logic behind them.
  • Support the preparation for WIP meetings by verifying the forecasted materials and hours, ensuring that all data is accurate for reporting purposes.
  • Facilitate daily planning and coordination with Foremen and Leads to align the field team on goals and priorities for the day.
  • Create, maintain, and update labor tracking forms, three-week look ahead plans, progress drawings, project trackers, and material release/request forms.
  • Ensure up-to-date project documentation, including drawings, RFIs, submittals, and schedules.
  • Draft RFIs as needed to resolve conflicts or clarify scope/specifications.
  • Prepare monthly as-built updates and distribute them to the project team.
  • Collaborate with the PM to validate project budgets, hours, and change orders, acting as a critical check and balance.
  • Analyze the project schedule to identify changes that may impact the budget or timeline, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Utilize construction management apps, spreadsheets, and digital tools for tracking labor, materials, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with BIM for the creation and maintenance of as-built documentation.
  • Ensure accurate updates to project trackers and digital records.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure work meets quality standards and complies with safety regulations.
  • Follow SCE QA/QC procedures, including megging, torqueing, and other critical tests.
  • Promote a culture of safety through training and consistent reinforcement of protocols.
  • Emphasize adherence to QA/QC processes and the importance of maintaining complete and accurate records.
  • Hold the team accountable for safety policies, work schedules, production goals, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Ensure all test reports are properly documented and filed.
  • Foster collaboration between the field team, office staff, and stakeholders to align on project goals and QA/QC compliance.
