Superintendent – K12 - Central Michigan
About The Position
Clark's Lansing office is seeking a Superintendent to lead daily field execution on K-12 construction projects across Central Michigan. The role focuses on delivering safe, high-quality work in active school environments, where students may be present, summer schedules are compressed, and opening-day deadlines are fixed. The Superintendent leads field operations each day, including trade contractors, safety standards, and schedule discipline, while partnering with the Project Manager on overall project strategy. The position is based in Lansing, Michigan, and serves clients across Central Michigan. The role may suit candidates living near Lansing, East Lansing, Jackson, Howell, Brighton, Dewitt, or surrounding areas. Success in the first year means confidently leading execution in occupied schools, coordinating trades around academic schedules, and meeting opening-day commitments. Over time, the Superintendent may lead larger or more complex projects and mentor Assistant Superintendents learning K-12 work.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction.
- Strong short-term planning and trade coordination skills.
- Clear, firm leadership presence on site.
- Deep commitment to safety and quality.
- Proficiency with Phoenix, ProjectSight, and Bluebeam.
- Reliable transportation and mobility on active sites.
Nice To Haves
- K-12 or occupied-building experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead 2-4 week look-ahead execution.
- Coordinate daily trade sequencing and site logistics.
- Enforce safety, cleanliness, and occupied-building protocols.
- Verify schedule alignment with the Project Manager.
- Lead weekly trade coordination meetings.
- Maintain detailed daily reports and documentation.
- Drive quality closeout with a minimal punch list.
- Represent Clark professionally with district staff and administrators.
- Mentor Assistant Superintendents as entrusted with larger or more complex projects.
