About The Position

Our client, an established commercial general contractor with more than 20 years in business, is seeking a Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee retail and commercial construction projects throughout the Houston market. This individual will be responsible for managing day-to-day field operations, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader who takes ownership of their projects, solves problems quickly, and can effectively communicate with project managers, subcontractors, clients, and internal operations teams.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  • At least two years of retail construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors and daily field operations.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of construction software, including Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain schedules and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with concrete placement and finishing.
  • Knowledge of tilt-wall, concrete block, and metal-frame construction.
  • Experience managing ground-up commercial or retail projects.
  • College degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily construction activities at the project site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, inspections, and project sequencing.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Maintain project schedules and identify potential delays before they impact completion.
  • Monitor workmanship and ensure construction meets project specifications and company quality standards.
  • Enforce site safety requirements and maintain an organized, professional jobsite.
  • Conduct regular subcontractor and project coordination meetings.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and schedule updates to project managers and operations leadership.
  • Review RFIs, submittments, change orders, and field documentation.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal project teams.
  • Travel occasionally to support projects in Texas or Central Florida.
