About The Position

GMHILL is seeking an experienced Superintendent / SSHO to lead field operations on federal construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring safety compliance, managing subcontractors, and delivering high-quality work on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in federal construction, safety management, and project coordination, particularly with USACE projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 10+ years in construction management, safety, or quality control on federal projects ($500K–$10M+).
  • OSHA 30
  • USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM)
  • First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Strong knowledge of federal construction safety standards (EM 385-1-1).
  • Proficient in Procore, RMS/QCS, MS Office, MS Project, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings (civil, structural, architectural, MEP).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Physically able to navigate construction sites and perform field inspections.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able to pass background check, drug screen and obtain a Federal security clearance (if required).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate subcontractors to ensure quality work and schedule adherence.
  • Serve as the on-site Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), enforcing the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
  • Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.16 safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain daily reports, safety documentation, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Supervise all field activities to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and spec-compliant project delivery.
  • Review and manage submittals with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives.
  • Monitor job site safety, productivity, and permit compliance.
  • Resolve conflicts and coordinate with project managers on logistics and scheduling.
  • Use Procore, RMS/QCS, and other tools to manage project documentation and progress.
