About The Position

The Shift Superintendent position serves as the senior management representative at the Channelview Site after hours, on weekends, and holidays and is responsible for the effective execution of plant operations during their shift. They are responsible to initiate and maintain communication as necessary with Senior Plant Management, Operations and Maintenance Managers, other Shift Superintendents, FLS, and other subordinates. They must assure alignment across the organization and raise priority issues to the appropriate level. The Shift Superintendent is responsible for championing the implementation of operational and organizational changes, monitoring the implementation, and taking appropriate action to constructively resolve issues or concerns. They must possess a broad understanding of plant policies, including Human Resource policies and procedures, to provide timely guidance to site leadership and others in understanding site/corporate direction, and to take the initiative to resolve issues within the workforce at all levels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED Equivalent
  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years related and progressive experience and responsibilities in plant operations with demonstrated leadership competencies
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Ability to interface with all organizational levels within the company

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in multiple operating areas across the Channelview site is preferred (i.e. Olefins, Mid Plant, East Plant, POSM, Derivatives, POTBA)

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Incident Commander for plant emergency responses. Knowledge of CVO Emergency Response systems and demonstrated leadership experience during site emergency responses is required.
  • Responsible for their respective shift ERT staffing, training needs and development of team leadership.
  • Serves as a focal point in communications to the surrounding community on all Company related issues after hours.
  • Ensures that all safety, environmental, process and personnel issues during off-hours are addressed and proper notifications are made.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of overall plant operations.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of company policies, plant operating procedures, laboratory and maintenance methods.
  • Must have a good understanding of H.R., Pay and CVO Site Policies.
  • Actively develops, mentors and coaches FLS.
  • Dialogues with Operations and Maintenance Managers as needed to discuss FLS development.
  • Actively engages organization to identify issues and concerns. Must be able to partner with H.R and Managers to bring resolution.
  • Requires the use of sophisticated human relations skills to effectively interface and communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must possess exemplary conflict resolution skills. These skills are critical since the incumbent must provide leadership, advice and counsel to a large group of technicians who work on shift in operations and the laboratory, and maintenance technicians who conduct maintenance activities across the plant without reporting directly to them.
  • Interacts with the workforce to provide clarity and resolve issues from the shift organization as necessary.
  • Responsible for day to day oversite of both CCR’s including ensure effective communications between units and focal point during site process upsets/weather events.
  • Ensure that the LYB Code of Conduct is adhered to across the site.
  • Evaluates maintenance needs on off hours and manages call outs.
