Requirements

  • Individual must have a strong performance ethic, create a compelling vision, model the way, strong communication skills, and make development a priority.
  • Successful experience and performance as a first line supervisor (i.e. Trainmaster, Road Foreman of Engines) required.
  • Proven ability to identify safety problems impacting operations.
  • Capable of working well under pressure, controlling emotional situations, and taking responsibility for actions.
  • Proficient in communicating and expressing ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to anticipate and overcome obstacles when completing tasks.
  • Adapt at making sound decisions when faced with pressure or uncertainty.
  • Proven leadership skills that build and foster cohesive teams.
  • Open to new ideas and opposing viewpoints.
  • Able to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional managerial experience and proven performance as Terminal Manager, Manager of Safety, NOC position handling train traffic operations, etc is strongly desired.
  • Designated Supervisor Locomotive Engineer (DSLE) certification a plus, as well as experience as a locomotive instructor.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Business Administration, or Transportation Management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and supervise subordinates in coordinating safe and economical train and switch engine movements within the division.
  • Coordinate supervision of train makeup, blocking and on-time departures and arrivals throughout the division.
  • Maintain frequent contact with BNSF customers to ensure that quality service is provided.
  • Communicate and respond to inquiries made by federal, state and city officials.
  • Identify training and development needs of direct reports to enhance their productivity, leadership and safety awareness.
  • Proactively manage the workforce to ensure that BNSF employees understand and comply with the company's policies, programs and rules.
