The Superintendent of Schools is the chief educational leader of the Diocese of Tulsa & Eastern Oklahoma’s Catholic school system. Appointed by Bishop David A. Konderla, the Superintendent reports to Fr. Gary Kastl, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, who provides day-to-day direction and conducts the annual evaluation. The Superintendent leads the schools as a cohesive system, supporting their mission to form students in faith, knowledge, and virtue in partnership with parents, while respecting each school’s distinct identity and community. The diocese includes nine diocesan PreK–12 parish schools in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bartlesville, and Muskogee; Bishop Kelley High School, an independent diocesan high school; and three additional non-diocesan schools: San Miguel Middle School, Cascia Hall, and Monte Cassino. Together, these schools serve approximately 4,500 students from PreK through grade 12. The diocese is midway through a strategic planning process. Working with diocesan leadership, principals, and strategic planning consultants, the Superintendent will complete the next phase by refining six priorities and setting goals, timelines, owners, and measures, then lead implementation. The priorities address diocesan leadership and infrastructure; affordability and financial capacity; educator and building-leader development; assessment and continuous improvement; curriculum and instructional coherence; and whole-child learner support. The Superintendent will also design, staff, and lead the Catholic Schools Office, which currently has a small staff and an administrative assistant. As the office grows, the Superintendent will redefine roles and hire an associate superintendent and additional staff. The role owns or develops diocesan frameworks for curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and student support; diocesan curriculum standards; faith formation and Catholic identity review; principal coaching, mentoring, onboarding, and evaluation in partnership with pastors; shared services; and guidance on funding opportunities. The Superintendent proposes the strategic plan, office budget and positions, diocesan-wide policies, and approaches to tuition and financial assistance for approval, and supports pastors, principals, local school budgeting, searches, and personnel processes. The role requires steady, trustworthy leadership, a strong background in teaching and Catholic school leadership, and authentic Catholic faith. A master’s degree in any field is required, with preference for education, educational leadership, or a related field; strong candidates completing a master’s degree may be considered. Teaching experience and a record of school leadership are also sought. Compensation is described as competitive. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; employer-provided life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance; long-term disability insurance; short-term disability coverage through the Paid Time Off program; and a 6% retirement plan contribution after two years of employment, with no employee match required.
