About The Position

Pinehurst Country Club is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent to support the Agronomy Team with the golf courses and club grounds. This position is responsible for the daily management of staff and chemical/fertilizer applications, taking a lead role within the Ground Department, and delivering premier country club experience while upholding Pinehurst Country Club's standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping systems.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of turf grass management.
  • Knowledge of pump station maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of disease and insect identification.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in ground maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate all golf course equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations.
  • 3+ years of irrigation experience working for a golf course.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Water greens, tees, fairways, rough, lawns, and other areas as needed or scheduled.
  • Monitor daily water usage and inform the Golf Course Superintendent of any needed adjustments to irrigation computer settings.
  • Operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
  • Design, implement, and maintain mechanical and electrical components of the course irrigation system.
  • Repair equipment associated with irrigation, including irrigation pipes and irrigation heads.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment associated with irrigation.
  • Maintain complete records on all equipment maintenance associated with irrigation.
  • Control expenses associated with irrigation equipment and activities.
  • Maintain inventory of parts needed for irrigation equipment.
  • Identify turf diseases and insects.
  • Perform all record-keeping relative to the irrigation system, including weather and rainfall data; assist in recording fertilizer and pesticide applications.
  • Perform monthly well and pump water usage reports.
  • Assist in grading and preparing soil base, laying sod, and seeding greens, tees, and fairways.
  • Assist in repairing greens with seeds or plugs of new grass when needed.
  • Help apply pesticides and fertilizers under the supervision of the Pesticides Application Specialist.
  • Operate dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
  • Occasionally supervise crews for special projects.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Follow all club policies, safety procedures, and service standards.
