About The Position

Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco is seeking an experienced builder to join their team as a Superintendent for new construction and acquisition-rehabilitation projects. This role is crucial for managing all aspects of field operations, ensuring high-quality homes are built safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wood-frame multifamily construction, enjoy mentoring others, and possess excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills to foster a positive jobsite culture. The Superintendent will report to the Project Manager and manage Crew Leaders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in residential or multifamily construction, preferably in the Bay Area.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and execute construction drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent knowledge of framing, building envelope, and cladding systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with staff, volunteers, subcontractors, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for coaching, mentoring, and developing others; a collaborative, servant-leadership approach is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and adapt to changing project needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Project, and comfort learning new construction management software platforms.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and ability to work in San Mateo, San Francisco and Marin Counties.
  • Must be able to pass background check (In accordance with state and county law: convictions do not necessarily rule out employment, it depends on the nature and severity of the conviction and is evaluated on a case by case basis, check is conducted on last 7 years only.)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to concrete formwork, MEP and finish carpentry.
  • Experience serving as a Superintendent or lead field supervisor on multifamily residential projects.
  • Experience working with construction management software, including Procore.
  • Experience supervising volunteers, apprentices, trainees, or less-experienced construction staff.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise all onsite labor, including subcontractors, Habitat staff, Crew Leaders, and volunteers.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor and field coordination meetings with project stakeholders, including the Project Manager and senior leadership.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules, including critical path schedules and three-week look-ahead plans.
  • Monitor construction progress and proactively identify and resolve schedule, quality, and coordination issues.
  • Inspect work in place to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, building codes, and Habitat quality standards.
  • Document construction progress through daily reports, field logs, and photographic records using Procore.
  • Develop and communicate daily work plans for Crew Leaders, staff, and volunteers.
  • Perform and verify critical layout dimensions throughout site work, foundations, framing, and finish phases.
  • Prepare material takeoffs, coordinate procurement activities, and schedule material deliveries to support project timelines.
  • Coordinate, prepare for, and attend all required inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, sustainability requirements, and permit conditions.
  • Maintain responsibility for jobsite safety, ensuring adherence to Habitat safety policies, OSHA requirements, and all applicable regulations.
  • Support permit-related safety documentation and pre-construction compliance activities.
  • Supervise, coach, and support Crew Leaders and recurring volunteers through training, performance feedback, and day-to-day leadership.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven work environment that promotes professional growth and accountability.
  • Create meaningful volunteer experiences by engaging community volunteers in productive, safe, and rewarding work that supports project goals and schedules.
  • Provide hands-on instruction and technical guidance to volunteers and staff while promoting safe construction practices.
  • Demonstrate Habitat Greater San Francisco's Core Values in all interactions and decision-making.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, homebuyers, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and public agency representatives.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Habitat's mission within the community and on the jobsite.
