About The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor Facilities Management, this position will oversee, plan, direct, and evaluate the day-to-day operation of maintenance staff. The primary functions associated with this position include, but are not limited to: Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements. Provides input to State of Good Repair/Rehab/overall building footprint planning. Assists in effectively managing and optimizing high quality contract/vendor management. Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others. Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Supervises staff in facility cleaning and the maintenance of mechanical equipment. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary. Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations. Coordinates staff scheduling and equipment to ensure maximization of resources. Coordination of preventive maintenance and repair schedules. Supervises and coordinates the work of contractors. Assists in the preparation and monitoring of an operating budget. Ensures that safe work practices are adhered to by staff and contractors. Ensures proper functioning of boiler plant, HVAC systems air handlers, and chiller, cooling tower and sand filter. Ensures regulatory standards are met with respect to the Public Health and Promotions Act, specifically pool filtration and water chemistry. Interviews, hires, conducts performance reviews and takes disciplinary action as required. Prepares reports, time sheets and keeps accurate records. Responds to public complaints and inquiries regarding facility maintenance operations. Liaise with cleaning and equipment product representatives. Carries out workplace inspections. Coordination of staff training seminars and purchasing.

Requirements

  • Experience in the methods and practices associated with refrigeration, swimming pool maintenance and filtration with recognized certificate or designation (Basic Refrigeration/B Ticket and Basic Pool Operator /CPO).
  • Experience in supervising activities associated with facility cleaning and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with HVAC systems.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class ‘G’ Driver's Licence and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
  • Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to create and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, the public and other agency personnel.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Corporate Health and Safety Policies, Collective Agreements, related Labour Legislation, Fire Code, Building Code, Public Health and Promotions Act.
  • Ability to motivate, coordinate and supervise staff.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, monitor budget and prepare written reports.
