About The Position

Kokosing is seeking a Roadway Superintendent to manage work focused on earthwork and highway construction in the Norfolk, VA area. This role involves supervising skilled trade crews and managing onsite construction activities for large, extensive Heavy Highway/roadway projects. The Superintendent will collaborate with the Project Engineer and Project Manager, focusing on Safety, Production, and Profitability. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Assisting with interviewing and training employees may also be part of the role.

Requirements

Technical experience progressing through the ranks as a Journeyman to a Foreman to a Superintendent.
Understand and interpret safety laws and company policies/standards.
Apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activity’s vitals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied self-performing trade disciplines.
Assemble 90-day and 3-week schedules in Microsoft Excel and use Microsoft Word for pre-planning processes.
Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.

Nice To Haves

10+ years similar construction Field Management experience
Roadway/Highway experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Lead and manage 3 or more Foreman on conducting work safely, productively, and focusing on quality.
Set a Safety 24/7 culture for your crews.
Assists the Project Manager in creating the project schedule.
Develop 90-day and 3-week schedules for crews.
Conduct pre-planning and goal setting with crews.
Oversee costs associated with your work items.
Coordinate manpower, heavy equipment, tooling and material needs for crews.
Coordinate and schedule subcontractors.
