About The Position

As Superintendent - Piping/Fabrication (Chilled Water) at a Modigent operating company, you will lead field operations for chilled water piping systems fabrication and installation on commercial mechanical projects. You will oversee crews to deliver precise, code-compliant, high-quality chilled water piping systems (including both carbon steel mains and copper branch piping) that support efficient HVAC operations in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. You will coordinate fabrication workflows, material handling, and site assembly—ensuring safety, efficiency, and seamless integration with other trades. Requirements

  • 7+ years in piping fabrication and installation for commercial mechanical projects, with significant experience in chilled water systems (including both steel and copper piping).
  • 3+ years supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Expertise in chilled water piping fabrication, welding (steel), brazing/soldering (copper), and installation techniques.
  • Strong blueprint reading, pressure testing, and quality control skills.
  • Team leadership, scheduling, and material coordination.
  • Safety management and basic computer skills for documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade certifications (e.g., welding, pipefitting) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise fabrication, welding, assembly, and installation of chilled water piping systems (carbon steel mains, copper branch piping, stainless steel, and other materials) per blueprints, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Manage shop and field crews, including scheduling, material staging, prefabrication, and tool/equipment readiness for chilled water projects.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols, conduct daily hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and ensure full PPE compliance.
  • Coordinate with other trades, subcontractors, project managers, and engineers for proper sequencing and conflict resolution on chilled water installations.
  • Perform quality inspections, pressure testing, flushing, and documentation for system handover and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication and installation issues, optimize workflows, and minimize waste on chilled water systems.
  • Mentor pipefitters, welders, and fabricators on chilled water best practices and safety standards.
  • Lead and mentor piping/fab crews (fitters, welders, apprentices); oversee performance, training, safety, and productivity.
