About The Position

The Summer Research Assistant will assist a faculty member of the law school with various projects by utilizing library and internet resources to research topics and then summarize the findings. This position involves in-depth legal research and writing projects assigned by the professor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Legal research and writing Assist with projects as assigned by the professor Data collection and analysis Literature review Engage in ongoing communication with the professor QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience Current enrollment in Liberty University School of Law Must be in good academic standing Legal research and writing experience Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously of a routine and complex nature Strong ability to work with and learn a variety of computer systems ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB Communication and Comprehension Strong legal research and writing skills. Possess communication skills needed to discuss and document research progress. Ability to work independently. Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills. Problem Solving Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Physical and Sensory Abilities Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Work Environment The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. Driving Requirements Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
