About The Position

About the Position: The CLV Summer Staff Orientation assistants, under the direction of the Summer Staff Orientation Coordinator, collaborate with CLV Programs, Operations, Human Resources, and Health & Wellness teams to support logistics for one or more week-long Summer Staff Orientations (weeks of June 8, July 13, and July 20) for approximately 600 summer seasonal staff. Requirements

  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and with a team

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Concordia Language Villages staff experience, highly preferred
  • Previous participation in SSO
  • Drivers license and ability to drive a 12-passenger van
  • Proficiency in a world language

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Program Directors, collaborate with other orientation staff to ensure a welcoming, supportive, and well-organized orientation experience
  • Support a smooth experience for summer staff by implementing plans related to orientation housing, registration, and transportation
  • Communicate with summer staff as needed regarding orientation housing and transportation to the Villages
  • Make announcements throughout orientation, particularly at mealtimes, to provide critical updates and ensure clear communication with all orientation participants
  • Assist in organizing supplies, technology, room setup, materials, forms, and sign-in processes for orientation sessions
  • Provide on-site support and assistance as need to staff attending orientation weeks, including answering questions, connecting staff with resources, and providing after-hours assistance as needed
  • Support guest speakers and session leaders for workshops and trainings
  • Be familiar with and abide by specific policies set forth in the “Personnel Policies,” which are designated by Concordia Language Villages administration and individual Village deans.
  • Read and become familiar with the responsibilities for your specific area of assignment.
  • After receiving your Staff Handbook and other material, read all the information carefully and thoroughly before arriving at the Village.
  • Live in community living arrangements, assigned according to gender.
  • Be prepared to use shared bathroom facilities assigned according to gender; shower and toilet stalls are private but situated within common bathroom areas shared with other staff and villagers.
  • Model standards for behavior and be sensitive to the health and welfare of the villagers.
  • Be at least 16 years of age to be considered for a staff position.
  • Be at least 18 years of age to be considered for a staff position if you are not a United States citizen.
  • Emotional resiliency and cognitive abilities to carry out job responsibilities specifically in the busy, noisy, communal environment that is the Village.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and manage your own needs in order to maintain a youth-centered program.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups in respecting social and cultural diversity and to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Provision of essential functions helps assure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
