About The Position

The Teacher Aide/Paraeducator supports instructional staff in delivering educational services to students with disabilities in a variety of settings. This role involves assisting with instruction, student supervision, behavior support, and daily classroom operations to help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment. Responsibilities may vary depending on program assignment.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in a clerical role; OR
One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children; OR
Completion of a child care training program through an accredited organization (e.g., occupational school, American Red Cross, or similar); OR
An equivalent combination of the above experience and training
Commitment to the full 30-day summer program
Mandatory attendance at orientation (date to be determined)
Non-BOCES applicants must provide proof of high school diploma or equivalency (applications without documentation will not be considered)
Successful completion of a background check through NYSED

Responsibilities

Support classroom instruction for students individually, in small groups, and during assessments (including test proctoring)
Supervise students across multiple settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and community environments
Assist with classroom management and behavior monitoring using positive behavior supports and crisis intervention strategies
Implement physical intervention techniques (e.g., Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) when necessary
Prepare instructional materials, classroom projects, and displays
Perform clerical tasks, record keeping, and general classroom organization as directed
Contribute personal skills (e.g., arts, music, recreation, vocational skills) to enhance programming when appropriate
Use basic technology tools, including email, or demonstrate willingness to learn
Accompany students on school buses and support participation in community-based learning activities (e.g., work experiences, field trips, vocational training)
Travel to off-campus activities using a personal vehicle, if required
Assist students in aquatic activities in therapeutic or traditional chlorinated pools
Support students with personal care, mobility, and self-help needs
Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development
Perform physical tasks required to support students and program needs
Complete additional duties as assigned based on program requirements
