About The Position

The School-Age Childcare Staff member is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for school-age children. This role includes planning and leading educational and recreational activities that support children’s growth and well-being. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, as this position works closely with the childcare director and other staff.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent), or be enrolled in a high school, GED, or HiSET program
  • Ability and willingness to follow all applicable laws and regulations
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate care
  • Demonstrated history of honest and lawful conduct
  • Strong judgment and commitment to children’s safety and well-being
  • Must not engage in any behavior detrimental to the welfare of children
  • Successful completion of all required DHHS background checks

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related field preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Registered with Maine Roads to Quality (MRTQ), or willingness to register and complete required training

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate educational and recreational activities
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment at all times
  • Anticipate and respond to the individual needs of each child with care and attentiveness
  • Communicate with the childcare director regarding questions or concerns
  • Maintain a positive, professional tone that promotes a supportive and collaborative environment
  • Provide daily updates to the childcare director regarding classroom needs and children’s progress
  • Build strong, positive relationships with children, families, and team members
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations and center policies
  • Monitor supplies and notify the director when materials need replenishing
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with families
  • Participate in bi-monthly staff meetings, safety trainings, drills, and educational sessions
  • May be assigned to an emergency response team
  • Complete all DHHS training requirements
