About The Position

The Summer Programs Assistant supports the Arts and Culture department’s mission of serving the community to enhance our quality of life by fostering the capacity for celebration, creativity, placemaking, and personal connections through the lens of inclusivity and right relations. Reporting to the Supervisor, Arts and Culture, the Summer Programs Assistant is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the Town of Canmore (“Town”) public art collection and assisting with public events such as National Indigenous History Month activities and Canada Day celebrations. This position will also help with maintaining the digital archive and inventory of artworks and cultural artifacts as part of the Town of Canmore’s public art collection. Our Arts & Events Department provides exciting opportunities to gain valuable insight into community programs and events in a municipal environment. Community engagement, data entry, and event coordination are core responsibilities for the successful candidate, with some public art maintenance. This job is perfect for someone inspired by our organizational purpose, and keen to support the success of the Arts & Events team. The ability to engage with members of the public – asking the right questions, learning about the community perspective, and building relationships – is essential for the success of this role and the Cultural Asset Mapping Project. You must approach conflict and concerns with positive assumptions, curiosity, and open mindedness. Having experience in public speaking or engagement, events coordination or management, and data collection or entry is an asset.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in or completed a university or college degree stream in the arts or in closely-related field with an interest in arts and culture, community events, and/or arts education – preferred
  • Event coordination experience – asset
