About The Position

Girls Inc. of Greater Pittsburgh (GIGP) is seeking to fill several part-time and full-time, non-exempt Eureka! Summer Program Counselor openings. The Eureka! summer programming is designed to engage middle-school girls in exploring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and motivate them to pursue post-secondary education and careers in STEM fields. The program will take place for three weeks during the summer at the Hill Community Engagement Center. The pay rate for this position is $17.50 per hour. The program hours are 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday. An orientation meeting is anticipated to be held on/about June 10, 2026. GIGP will accept applications through June 1, 2026, with interview invitations to begin on a rolling basis. However, applications will be accepted after this date for unfilled positions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in youth development or working with youth.
  • Working knowledge of developing relevant, engaging programming for middle school-aged girls.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for supporting volunteer involvement.
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications.
  • Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers due to typing and the ability to walk for extended periods and bend, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to serve as a chaperone on public transportation (including charter buses and off-site trips)
  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills to communicate effectively across youth, GIBL teammates, teachers, and volunteers.
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment background checks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the core mission of Girls Inc. or similar youth-focused programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in girls-centered program development, implementation, and evaluation is strongly preferred.
  • Participation as a mentor in GIGP school-year programming
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining order of all program supplies in the program location.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of participants during outdoor recreation, group activities, and games.
  • Monitor participant behavior and communicate any concerns or challenges to the assigned GIGP Program Manager or Community Engagement Specialist.
  • Lead weekly themed activities, contests, and special event days.
  • Facilitate arts, crafts, and hands-on activities to provide a well-rounded program experience.
  • Assist in the safe execution of Pool Days and off-site activities, which requires constant monitoring of the campers in assigned groups.
  • Work collaboratively with GIGP staff to ensure a continuum of service for participants in Girls Inc. programs.
  • Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
