Summer Migrant Program Academic Interventionist

Owatonna School District 761Owatonna, MN
Onsite

About The Position

Provide small group and individual interventions in reading and math to migrant elementary and middle school aged students. The students' day is divided broadly into two sections. From breakfast until lunch, we focus on academics. For elementary and middle school students, there is a strong emphasis on reading and math. At the beginning of the program, pre-tests in reading and math are conducted. Post-tests are administered at the end of the program. The goal is to help demonstrate increased proficiency on these measures. The teachers work with the program coordinator to identify the skills on which students will be tested and taught. The Academic Interventionist will work closely with the elementary and middle school teachers to identify students that would benefit from additional, targeted instruction. The teachers work with the program coordinator to identify the skills on which students will be tested and taught. The program coordinator brings in other district resources (e.g. Teaching and Learning and Curriculum and Instruction Coordinators) when appropriate. The second part of the day is focused on enrichment. This can include STEAM activities, physical fitness, community outreach, field trips, and more. Teachers' interests and passions often drive this part of the day. MEP teachers often work collaboratively to plan various activities for the students. By being placed at the Middle School, we have access to the fitness room, gym, prairie, soccer and baseball fields, and more. The Academic Interventionist may at times assist with enrichment. When possible, they will also deliver targeted academic services to students.
