About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Library Director during the summer, this position does not supervise any individuals and has daily contact with the general public, children, and adults. This role involves assisting with the Summer Reading Program, managing registration, tracking reading progress, shelving books, organizing the Children's Room, and supporting program activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with others and interact pleasantly with the general public.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, lift 50 pounds, crouch, write and stoop.
  • Ability to operate a variety of library equipment including computer and copy machine.
  • Ability to push a fully loaded book cart, which can weigh over 100lbs.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License (when applicable) or Student ID (If under 16).
  • Meet with and interact effectively with the general public.

  • Filing experience.
  • Experience working with young children.

Responsibilities

  • Register children for the Summer Reading Program.
  • Alphabetize and file registration forms.
  • Record and keep track of the number of books read by each child during the Summer Reading Program.
  • Keep statistics on the number of participants.
  • Shelve books as they are returned to the library.
  • Keep storage closet and posters updated and organized.
  • Straighten and organize the Children’s Room each day.
  • Assist with program activities as needed.
  • Perform shelf reading as other duties permit.
  • Move tables and chairs.
