About The Position

We are seeking a Summer Intern - Mechanical Engineer to support the engineering department with capital projects and other initiatives across the mill. This role provides hands-on exposure to heavy industrial equipment, mechanical systems, and real-world engineering applications in a manufacturing environment. You will assist engineering team with capital project development and execution, and implementation of engineering procedures. About Port Townsend Paper Corporation (PTPC) The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately interpret technical and equipment data.
  • Proficiency in a variety of Office M365 products.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with industrial mechanical systems and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to project engineering, project processes and procedures
  • Opportunity to contribute on capital projects, engineering procedures and initiatives.
  • Understanding of how mechanical systems integrate within a large-scale pulp and paper mill and how engineering decisions impact safety, efficiency, and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with safety and environmental projects throughout the mill.
  • Support capital project development and execution.
  • Support initiatives to improve the engineering department efficiency.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams on special projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and mechanical engineering standards.
  • Support updates to mill drawings, layouts, and equipment documentation as needed.
