About The Position

MISO is offering a 2027 Summer Internship Program for students pursuing degrees in Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Public Policy, or related fields. This internship focuses on strategic insights and aims to provide a career-igniting experience where interns can see their ideas make a real impact. The role involves driving innovations that boost system reliability, resilience, and performance, and tackling complex technical challenges in the energy industry. MISO manages the electricity superhighway in the Central U.S., ensuring power flows reliably to 45 million Americans through groundbreaking research and advanced technology.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong critical thinking and research ability.
  • Interest in strategy, policy, market dynamics, or risk assessment.
  • Proficient in Visual Studio Code, GitHub, Power BI, PowerPoint, and commonly used analytical tools.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, eagerness to learn, and strong respect and collaboration.
  • Excited to work with real-world datasets, dashboards, trend reports, long-term planning materials, and strategic briefs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and synthesize insights for leadership audiences.
  • Available to start Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13th, 2027.
  • No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze trends, load growth patterns, and emerging risks to support MISO’s long-term strategy and planning.
  • Strengthen analytical insights by refining data inputs, comparing regional trends, and collaborating with teammates to build meaningful takeaways that support real decisions.
  • Contribute to forecasting and strategic analysis projects that help planners, operators, and leaders anticipate how the grid is evolving and what it means for system reliability.
  • Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming.
  • Summarize project work, recommendations, and areas of impact in a final presentation.
