About The Position

Five Rings is a proprietary trading firm that combines strategy, innovation, and technology to succeed in global markets. We trade in various domestic and international markets, seeking new opportunities, analyzing risks and rewards, and creating strategies and tools to capitalize on them. Our culture is open, encouraging the flow of knowledge and ideas across all areas of the firm. This intensive 9-week summer internship program runs from the beginning of June through the beginning of August. The program includes immersion in hands-on projects, classroom instruction, and in-house built strategy games. Interns will work closely with the research team on development projects and will have a dedicated mentor. Participants will attend talks introducing key trading concepts and engage in various social activities such as strategic game nights, nights out in NY, and dinners.

Requirements

Working towards a PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, economics, or another qualifying field.
Exceptional at math and with other quantitative skills.
Hunger to work on some of the most complex mathematical problems.
Enjoy problem solving.
Enjoys initiating/acting on a thought or idea as soon as it comes to mind.
Proven track record of success within candidate's field of specialty.
Excited to work as a team, but also comfortable testing ideas independently.
Basic programming experience through internships or academia.
Meticulous and detail-oriented.
Eager to learn.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the research team on development projects.
Take part in a series of talks to introduce key trading concepts.
Participate in strategic game nights, nights out in NY, dinners, and other activities.
