About The Position

Vistra’s Generation Services engineering and subject matter expert teams serve Vistra’s power generation fleet of assets by providing engineering and technical expertise. Engineering support ranges from providing recommendations for operations and maintenance practices, retrofit and repair design specifications, troubleshooting and analysis of equipment failures, development of standardization procedures, and much more. The successful candidate will work with team members from Generation Services’ Mechanical Rotating Equipment Engineering team members to support the generation plants’ mechanical engineering needs. The successful candidate will work with the Generation Services engineering team to support the plants with mechanical engineering programmatic and emergent needs. The activities will include: Support fleet mechanical issues specific to rotating equipment and develop actions plans Support operational anomaly investigations and develop action plans Support fleet program information gathering and management Develop scope and design information for component inspection and repairs The internship will also include some rotational exposure to other departments within the Generation Services organization to demonstrate additional roles and services within the organization. Basic business acumen training

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Students sponsored through Optical Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT) are NOT eligible for this internship.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year institution of higher education and pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or comparable degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Access desired
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; presentation skills desired
  • Official transcripts must be received from your school prior to start date
  • Must be in good academic standing with your school

Responsibilities

  • Interface with engineering staff, operations & maintenance groups, and other Vistra personnel to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) Program.  Incumbents will rotate through the different areas of the plant to gain a working knowledge of those areas of the plant.  Areas include, but are not limited to Safety, Operations, Maintenance, Instrumentation & Control, Reliability and Chemical / Environmental
  • Will be assigned various engineering projects.
  • Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Possess the ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment
  • Support fleet mechanical issues specific to rotating equipment and develop actions plans
  • Support operational anomaly investigations and develop action plans
  • Support fleet program information gathering and management
  • Develop scope and design information for component inspection and repairs
