About The Position

The Engineering/Lean Intern will play a key role in supporting the optimization of production processes by conducting detailed time studies throughout the facility. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, the intern will follow a structured methodology to gather, analyze, and document process data. This role directly contributes to the company’s continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity metrics.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing operations, production flow, and industrial engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in data collection and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with data analysis tools or software (e.g., Minitab, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document technical findings clearly.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision while also collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to be on the shop floor and interact with operators and supervisors to observe and record process behaviors.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team-based environment, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely completion.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute time studies across all production lines using established industrial engineering methodologies.
  • Collect and analyze data related to production cycle times, operator efficiency, and workflow patterns.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to identify improvement opportunities based on time study results.
  • Assist in documenting standard operating procedures and work instructions as part of process optimization.
  • Support the implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.
  • Prepare reports and presentations that summarize findings and recommendations for process improvements.
  • Contribute to process mapping, workflow analysis, and layout improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to review data insights and propose solutions.
  • Ensure all data collection and analysis efforts comply with safety and quality standards.
