The Consumer Rights & Economic Justice (CREJ) project at Public Counsel is dedicated to advancing economic justice, with a particular focus on addressing structural racial inequalities that disproportionately affect individuals and communities of color. CREJ is comprised of a diverse team of nationally recognized attorneys and support staff committed to client advocacy through excellence, dedication, tenacity, compassion, and kindness. The project engages in direct legal services, policy and legislative reform, and impact litigation in federal and state courts, while also building a community lawyering approach through direct community engagement. Their practice areas encompass a broad range of consumer matters, including predatory lending, debt collection, real estate fraud, foreclosure, student loan debt, medical debt, predatory for-profit schools, bankruptcy, criminal system debt, consumer fraud, and unfair business practices. CREJ also offers a variety of consumer and litigation-related trainings throughout the summer for consumer lawyers and law clerks.
