About The Position

We are hiring for a Summer Day Camp Medical Professional at Day Camp at Wells Ave for the 2026 Summer season! This role is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the camp community through sound health promotion and practices, while complying with the Department of Public Health Regulations. Campers enjoy traditional camp games, sports, arts and crafts, swim lessons, hiking, free swim, nature walks, exploration, and camp-wide fun each week, all led by trained counselors who embody YMCA values.

Requirements

  • 1st aid and CPR certified as a professional rescuer.
  • Prior experience as a medical responder.
  • Prior experience working in a camp/ childcare setting.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School education or above.
  • Successfully passed the Massachusetts mandated CORI and SORI check.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, problem solving skills and risk management.
  • Human relation skills with public and staff.
  • Strong understanding of characteristics and issues of all age groups.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Physical assessment skills with children ages 5 – 15 years old.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid and AED.
  • Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond the written job description.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health conditions of campers and staff.
  • Review all camper and staff medical histories.
  • Responsible for proper daily records and reports regarding all camp incidents and accidents in daily medical log.
  • Monitor health medical records, inform staff of significant findings.
  • Responsible for dispensation of medicine as prescribed by physician.
  • Prepare first aid kits for groups.
  • Communicate with Camp Physician on call.
  • Communicate with parents regarding children’s health conditions and medications when appropriate.
  • Follow camp standing orders for medical needs.
  • Maintain and communicate emergency phone number list to staff.
  • Present general medical information to staff at orientation.
  • Order all necessary first aid supplies, in consultation with the camp director.
  • Maintain a clean and a well-stocked infirmary.
  • Aware of camp emergency procedures and prepared to act if warranted.
  • Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc.
  • Help with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team.
  • Assist with camper pick-up and drop off.
  • Demonstrate/teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.
  • Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.
  • Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the public at all times.
  • Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities visually and audibly.
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
