About The Position

The Summer Counselor position at Brook Hill combines the roles of a summer counselor and tour guide, offering a flexible part-time opportunity. This role involves interacting with international students, helping them have a memorable summer vacation, and leading various activities and excursions. The ideal candidate is energetic, personable, comfortable engaging with large groups, adaptable to unexpected changes, passionate about student interaction, and a quick learner. This is an hourly, part-time, and in-person position where counselors engage with students on campus and during excursions, conduct activities, assist with check-ins/check-outs, lead tours, and supervise students. Counselors report to the management team and Activity Coordinators. This position is not eligible for on-campus housing, but meals may be covered during working hours. Brook Hill Alliance (formerly PLUS) operates international education programs, including Brook Hill Study Tours, for international high school students in North America, focusing on English classes and regional exploration within North American colleges and universities. Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. required
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma required
  • Previous customer service experience strongly preferred
  • Previous summer camp experience or work with minors strongly preferred
  • Previous international experience preferred
  • Athletic, musical, theatrical, and/or artistic talent and enthusiasm preferred

Responsibilities

  • Understanding, adhering to, and enforcing all Brook Hill/campus policies and procedures.
  • Interacting with groups of international high school students and their group leaders in a professional, enthusiastic, and customer service-oriented manner.
  • Ensuring the safety of all participants and practicing appropriate emergency preparedness and response.
  • Communicating Brook Hill policies and procedures to participants with clarity, empathy, and respect.
  • Acting with discretion regarding participants’ sensitive or personal information, incidents, and concerns.
  • Assisting in duties other than the aforementioned, as assigned.
  • Organizing and delivering on-campus activities for students and their group leaders, including orientation, welcome activities, talent shows, graduation ceremonies, disco, game nights, movie nights, and sporting activities.
  • Attending and participating in scheduled on-campus activities, including performing at talent shows.
  • Encouraging student participation in on-campus events.
  • Setting up, leading, and tearing down recreational activities.
  • Organizing and supervising sporting activities.
  • Leading students and their group leaders on engaging tours of local sights and landmarks.
  • Knowledgeably delivering relevant information about each landmark.
  • Comfortably navigating and leading groups on public transportation systems, primarily the subway.
  • Conducting walking and bus tours with confidence in the route.
  • Ensuring student safety at all times, including in transit and at tourist sites.
  • Coordinating logistics for excursions, including communicating with bus drivers and facilitating hotel check-ins.
  • Playing games and entertaining students while on excursions, especially during unforeseen delays.
  • Preparing for and responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Responding appropriately to students’ and group leaders’ concerns.
  • Engaging with students to help them improve their conversational English skills.
  • Encouraging student participation and involvement during on- and off-campus activities.
  • Eating and conversing with Brook Hill participants during meal times.
  • Supervising students in the dining hall, activity spaces, and off-campus locations.
  • Supporting the logistical and organizational needs of the campus.
  • Attending staff meetings when scheduled.
  • Assisting in administrative tasks as assigned by the management team.
  • Capturing high-quality photo and video content of participants for social media.
  • Using the company card appropriately and tracking all spending, if applicable.
  • Assisting in arrival, departure, and changeover procedures, including check-in/check-out procedures, room checks, and airport pickups.
  • Guiding students to campus locations and resources as needed.
  • Assisting the management team as necessary and as requested.
