About The Position

The School of Education/Community Leisure Learn program is looking for enthusiastic, responsible, and charismatic instructors for our Summer Camps! The PITT’s KIDS Summer Camp program provides instruction in aquatics, games, and sports instruction to children ages 5 to 16 years old. Through this developmental program, children participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities with a focus on progressive skill instruction. The program uses all areas of Trees Hall including the rock wall and the Olympic-size swimming pool. We also use the small pool in the back of the Olympic pool. Pitt's Kids Fall Program is looking for energetic and creative students to design and implement fun physical activities for our youth participants. The Summer Camp Swim Instructor will oversee swimming lessons and water safety for campers aged 6-15, ensuring a fun and secure aquatic environment. Responsibilities include teaching basic to advanced swim skills, conducting safety drills, and assessing camper progress. The instructor will promote water safety awareness, supervise swim sessions, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. During mornings with no swim scheduled, swim staff will be expected to assist with STEAM activities, engaging campers in creative and educational projects that promote learning and teamwork. Candidates should possess strong swimming abilities.

Requirements

  • Strong swimming abilities.
  • The Pennsylvania Child Protection Clearances prior to start (FBI, Child Abuse, Criminal Background Check).
  • High School diploma minimum.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid and CPR Preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience planning lessons for instruction with children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the children to effectively facilitate their participation, skill development, and enjoyment of the program.
  • Develop, revise, and implement lesson plans.
  • Model, demonstrate, and provide hands-on guidance and instruction to the children in the activity and during transitional locations.
  • Communicate needs and wants to staff.
  • Provide a safe environment for the children.
  • Represent the Pitt’s Kids well to families and children.
  • Work with the Pitt’s Kids administrators in all essential levels of program planning and development in the vital administration of Pitt’s Kids program.
